Eugenics is back in the news

Some bad ideas never die. The progressive Left has thrust eugenics back into the news with their hysterical reaction to American Eagle’s ad campaign featuring Sidney Sweeney.

Every social commentator in America has already weighed in on the campaign, because of the use of this phrase:

“Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”

Clever. Ms. Sweeney is pleasing to the eyes (view ad at bottom of page). Sex-appeal has dominated the advertising profession for decades. American Eagle uses a clever play on the word “jeans.” And the Left goes apocalyptic with accusations of ‘eugenics.’

NPR’s inaccurate take on the (non) controversy

Allow Pulse to react specifically to NPR’s typical unbalanced reaction to the non-controversy. Here’s what they said:

“The campaign has sparked backlash online. Some social media users have accused American Eagle of teasing at eugenics, a discredited scientific theory popular among white supremacists that the human race could be improved by breeding out less desirable traits. NPR reached out to American Eagle and a publicist for Sweeney for comment but has not received a response yet.” [Emphasis ours.]

True, both sides of the political aisle have flirted with eugenics at some point in time. But for the Left, it was a full-blown courtship, the very foundation of Planned Parenthood founder, Margaret Sanger’s creed.

To this day, Planned Parenthood aborts a disproportionate percentage of Black Babies. Although Blacks represent but 13% of the population, they account for 41% of all abortions (2021 data) according to USA Facts.

The (once) prestigious Margaret Sanger Award went to a who’s who of Democratic politicians, including Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi, in spite of Ms. Sanger’s expressed desire to reduce the population of undesirable groups, including Black Americans.

Pulse Life Advocates, formerly Iowans For Life, found eugenics to be such a repulsive, anti-life, creed that we produced a play on the subject titled, “A Clash of Creeds.”

Pulse promotes the pro-life cause in the culture

We believe in using the theatrical arts in promoting a culture of life by shining a light on the toxic creed embraced by the culture of death.

Pulse board president, Tom Quiner, wrote the script, which featured a conversation between Margaret Sanger, Ayn Rand (author of Atlas Shrugged), and St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, moderated by G.K. Chesterton.

The script used the actual words of each of these 20th Century icons as they sparred with each other in defense of their respective creeds. Each was an influential thinker, impacting the world for good and bad.

Sanger believed in forced sterilization and segregation to reduce undesirable populations. She called for the creation of ‘Population Parliament’ to control the nation’s birthrates by suppressing groups she deemed inferior.

You can watch her spar with Chesterton in the scene above as she defends eugenics.

An excerpt:

MOTHER TERESA:  My dear, why would a country as great as America need such a “Population Congress?”

SANGER: To increase the general intelligence of the population.

CHESTERTON [to the audience]:  Modern intelligence won’t accept anything on authority. But it will accept anything without authority. That’s why her movement stands a chance.

SANGER:  You are so wrong, Mr. Chesterton. My Population Congress would be a credentialed Parliament of the best and brightest minds in their fields.

They would be empowered to apply a stern and rigid policy of sterilization, and segregation to that grade of population whose progeny is already tainted, or whose inheritance is such that objectionable traits may be transmitted to offspring.

So, yes, eugenics is back in the news. As you can see, NPR’s characterization of “eugenics” as a creed of ‘white supremacists’ is laughable in light of Planned Parenthood’s relentless assault on Black America’s birthrate via abortion. Not a single Democrat in Congress dissents. In fact, all opposed defunding the abortion giant for even a single year.
