Another Baby Saved in Iowa!
The Iowa Department of Health & Human Services says that a baby girl who was born earlier this month is now in its custody thanks to the Safe Haven Act.
HHS released the information on Tuesday that the child was born on September 8. The infant girl will be placed with a foster family until receiving a permanent placement.
Since the Safe Haven Act went into effect in 2002, HHS says there have been 82 Safe Haven babies.
The law allows parents to give up a baby up to 90 days old without facing criminal consequences. The child can be surrendered at many designated safe haven locations, such as hospitals and police and fire stations. A foster family will care for the baby until they are adopted.
