Rejoice!
What?!
How can we rejoice after what happened at the polls last night?
Most reading this post are probably dismayed, even depressed by the election results. Socialism appears to be on the march in the U.S. How can this be, especially in light of its consistent track record of destructive failure?
The issues about which we care most are threatened more than ever:
- The dignity of the human person from fertilization to natural death;
- Affordability;
- Basic freedoms of God-given rights of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness and;
- Judeo-Christian values.
A basic reading of history reveals that socialism never works. As former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher drolly put it,
“Eventually you run out of other people’s money.”
Socialism sounds righteous on paper. But it’s based on the flawed notion that government knows best.
It’s based on the flawed notion that government in the hands of elites will create a perfect, just society from top down by forcing the elites’ values on all the little, ignorant people who don’t know what is best for them.
The socialist plan always gets corrupted for a number of reasons, but especially because it leaves God out of the equation.
Although abortion wasn’t a front-burner issue this election cycle, it took a hit. Scores of pro-abortion candidates won from coast-to-coast. Three states expanded abortion rights:
- Virginia voters amended their state’s constitution, guaranteeing abortion rights “to every individual.”
- Nevada voters overwhelmingly amended their state’s constitution, allowing for abortion up to the point of viability with no restrictions.
- Missouri voters rejected an opportunity to reinstitute a state ban on abortion.
But Idaho voters preserved their state’s ban on abortion.
Here’s why we can rejoice:
Our salvation is not in government.
It is not found in a particular political party.
It is found in God. The true sign of a Christian is joy. We rejoice because we know God is in control.
He has this.
He has us.
Our battle is not against a political party. Since the fall of man in the Garden of Eden, our battle has been against the devil. Pro-lifers engage in spiritual warfare on a daily basis.
We know who is in charge.
We know the end of the story.
That doesn’t mean we sit back and do nothing. We fight even harder for the unborn. We fight harder for the truth. We fight harder for justice.
But we go into this battle knowing we have the army of God at our backs, and we can trust Him, no matter what happens or how dark it may appear on the way.
The devil wants us to lose hope. The devil wants us to despair.
It is likely that we have a bumpy road ahead of us. It may feel like we are losing the soul of this country. We may feel that we are losing the pro-life battle. But let’s not let our trust in God be threatened. Let’s not lose hope. Let’s not lose our joy.
The world needs pro-lifers more than ever!
We stand on the promise that Jesus will always be with us, and that He will come again. That is when, and only then, that everything will be perfect.
Say it again: REJOICE!
This is a great time to be a pro-lifer!
