Here’s the letter we sent to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche

Pulse Life Advocates joined Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and 70+ other pro-life organizations in sending the following letter to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. We call on this administration to end its lax policies on mail-order abortion.

***

Dear Acting Attorney General Blanche,

We, the undersigned, representing millions of Americans across the nation, call on you to use your new position to reverse the DOJ’s harmful stance of siding with the abortion drug industry. You have the opportunity instead to stand with pro-life Republican Attorneys General who are suing the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to protect their citizens from the harms of abortion drugs and to stop FDA policies that undermine our state laws.

Six pro-life states – Missouri, Idaho and Kansas, Florida and Texas, and Louisiana – have sued FDA in three separate lawsuits demanding justice for their citizens harmed by FDA’s reckless abortion drug policies.

Louisiana is joined in its lawsuit by Rosalie Markezich, a young woman pressured into abortion by her boyfriend, who ordered the drugs online. She said: “If mail-order abortion wasn’t a thing, I’m 100% sure I would have my child…. I do not believe a doctor would have prescribed me the drugs if I told her I did not want them.”

Tragically, to date, this Department of Justice has downplayed the harms of mail-order abortion and called for each case to be paused or even dismissed entirely.

i Meanwhile, thousands of abortion drugs are being mailed all over the United States daily, even from overseas, with zero oversight. Pro-life states cannot meaningfully enforce their laws when FDA is siding with mail-order abortionists and DOJ is siding with abortion drug manufacturers. Virtually every state has some law on the books that makes the current mail-order abortion regime unlawful, even basic laws like practicing medicine without a license.

Yet abortionists protected by so-called “shield laws” ship drugs nationally with impunity, pointing to FDA for cover. Despite firm commitments from HHS Secretary Kennedy and FDA Commissioner Makary to conduct a thorough safety review of abortion drugs, FDA subsequently expanded the availability of the abortion drug mifepristone by approving a new generic version last fall.

This Administration’s support for the mail-order abortion drug regime up to this point is out of step with the majority of voters and specifically with the GOP base:

• A nationwide McLaughlin & Associates survey found that 7 in 10 likely general election voters –

including 57% of liberal voters – approve of requiring a doctor visit to receive a prescription for

abortion drugs.ii

• A nationwide Cygnal survey found that Republican primary voters overwhelmingly disapprove of

allowing mail-order abortion drugs, and one-third of those voters would be less enthusiastic about

voting in November and less willing to volunteer if GOP leaders abandon pro-life policies.iii

When abortion drugs are available through the mail, there is no accountability, state laws are made impotent, and women and girls are hurt. This is a harmful and politically dangerous path. We urge the DOJ to stop siding with the abortion industry and stand with pro-life states and brave women like Rosalie.

Sincerely,

Marjorie Dannenfelser, President
