5 ways Planned Parenthood mislead women
Did you hear Briana Neuvirth’s testimony at the Iowa Prayer Rally for Life at the Capitol last Thursday? It was riveting in its presentation of the life-altering deceit she experienced at the hands of Planned Parenthood.
We posted her 8 minute presentation above. It’s worth watching in its entirety.
Briana was a senior in college when she became pregnant. She expressed the sentiments of so many young women experiencing a crisis pregnancy by letting fear motivate her decisions. She said,
“I felt trapped and scared. I didn’t weigh my options or seek advice. I let fear make decisions for me.”
5 ways Planned Parenthood misleads women
She pointed out 5 ways Planned Parenthood misled her when she experienced a crisis pregnancy:
- The ultrasound ‘blob.’ Planned Parenthood [PP] provided an ultrasound, but arranged the screen so Briana couldn’t see it live. When it was done, they fiddled with the controls and then asked if she would like to see it. She said yes, but when PP turned the screen towards her, all she saw was a still picture of black/brown blob. They told her, “See, it’s just a clump of cells.” Convinced of the non-human status of the clump, she immediately took the first abortion pill.
- Shocking side effects. That night, she took the next round of pills as directed. She became violently ill, throwing up and bleeding to an extent that frightened her. When she called their hotline, they said what she experienced was normal. Why didn’t they tell her that in advance? Briana felt ill-informed and ill-equipped to handle what she was going through.
- “I honestly thought I was going to die.” She had no clue the process was going to be so hellish. She said it was a terrifying experience and was all alone throughout the process. She didn’t think she would live til morning. Her recovery was long; bleeding didn’t fully end for two months. She said she didn’t bleed nearly that much in two subsequent natural miscarriages over the years. Her spiritual healing took much longer: “I carried a suffocating amount of guilt and shame.”
- Trained to deceive. Later, Briana saw a documentary on Planned Parenthood by a former employee. She revealed PP employees were trained to convince women to go through with the abortion once they stepped into a PP clinic. They were coached on how to present an ultra sound image so it looked like a blob, not a human being. Upon seeing the documentary, she requested to see her file of her abortion visit to PP. The ultrasound image she received in the mail shocked her: it clearly showed a baby with arms, legs, and a head. It looked nothing like what she saw at the clinic. “They intentionally showed me a fake ultrasound image that day.” Briana felt betrayed.
- Baby starves to death. PP didn’t explain in advance that the 1st pill Briana took cut off the supply of oxygen and nutrients the baby needed to survive. To do so would acknowledge the humanity of the unborn child, that it was a unique human being dependent on the mother to be fed, just as a mother feeds a child after she is born. Brian wouldn’t have proceeded with the abortion had it been presented that way.
The abortion pill hurts both the baby and the mom
As you can see, the abortion pill doesn’t just hurt the baby, it hurts the mom. It has absolutely nothing to do with ‘healthcare.’ The abortion pill starves a healthy unborn baby to death. Women who ingest the pill think they’re going to die. The pain and bleeding are that bad.
Just as PP deceived Briana Neuvirth, they continue to boldly deceive women with their claim that it is safer than Tylenol, penicillin, and Viagra, a claim we refuted in a blogpost last summer.
That’s why Pulse Life Advocates, along with fellow members of the Coalition of Pro-Life Leaders, supports passage of Senate Study Bill 3115, which would simply require the abortion pill (Mifepristone and Misoprostol) to be prescribed and dispensed in person.
Pulse executive director, Maggie DeWitte, testified before the Senate in support of the bill:
“The abortion pill is a dangerous drug. We would not want to see this drug on the market. But if it is going to be on the market, we want women to be as safe as they can be.”
Another ‘straw man’ argument
Iowa ACLU director of communications, Veronica Fowler, put forth a straw man argument against the bill:
“This legislation will worsen care for rural Iowans. Anyone who lives in a rural area knows that we really have a crisis right now in health care providers, especially with OB-GYNs. All we are doing is making it harder for rural women to get the health care they need.”
DeWitte exposed her fallacious argument with some simple facts:
“In Iowa, we have 55 pregnancy resource centers across the state in both urban and rural areas. They are providing comprehensive and quality healthcare to families in crisis pregnancies. These centers are providing real healthcare to women in need.”
