Huge Win! The Heartbeat Bill is the law of the land!
Great news: The Heartbeat Bill stands!
The law bans abortions after a heartbeat is detected in the unborn baby, allowing exceptions in cases of incest or to save the life of the mother.
Lawsuits resulted in an injunction on the law. So last summer, the Iowa Legislature passed the bill a second time, with bigger majorities than the first. Governor Kim Reynolds quickly signed it into law, so the Iowa Supreme Court could weigh in its legitimacy.
After a year’s wait, the decision is in. In a 4 to 3 decision, the Court gave its imprimatur and lifted the injunction, allowing enforcement to begin within 21 days.
At an early morning press conference, Pulse executive director, Maggie DeWitte, made these remarks:
“I’m Maggie DeWitte, executive director of Pulse Life Advocates, and spokesperson for the Iowa Coalition of Pro-Life Leaders. Today is a monumental step forward for human rights here in Iowa. That baby in her mother’s womb … she is a baby! She is a unique human being. She has her own DNA, her own fingerprints. She has been endowed by her Creator to an inalienable right to Life. Today is a celebration for Life, for moms, for babies, for the entire state of Iowa!”

Iowa’s AG, Brenna Bird, added:
“Today’s Supreme Court decision upholding IA’s heartbeat law made it clear: Iowa stands for life!”
An earlier law on the books protected unborn rights at 20 weeks. With the implementation of the Heartbeat Bill, the markers move to when a heartbeat is detected, rough six to ten weeks after conception.
Praise God! Let’s celebrate. This win could NOT have happened without your prayers and financial support. Pulse and our allies in the Iowa Coalition of Pro-Life Leaders have been camped out at the State House promoting this bill for years.
Today, God smiled upon our efforts with this historic win for life!
Let’s say it again: Praise God!
