Here’s the letter we sent to the White House

Pulse Life Advocates, in unity with nearly 80 pro-life organizations, signed on to this letter sent to the President and Congressional leaders to preserve and protect the Hyde Amendment, which prevents the use of taxpayer dollars being used to pay for abortions.

The Honorable Donald J. Trump

President of the United States

The White House

The Honorable J.D. Vance

Vice President of the United States

The White House

The Honorable John Thune

Senate Majority Leader

United States Senate

The Honorable Mike Johnson

Speaker of the House of Representatives

United States House of Representatives

Dear President Trump, Vice President Vance, Majority Leader Thune, and Speaker Johnson:

Life is not only a historic pillar of the Republican Party, but the crux on which conservatism rests. It is not an issue which congressional Republicans can find “flexible.” Life is a winning issue, and prohibiting forced taxpayer funding of abortion is non-negotiable.

Obamacare, a uniquely progressive approach, was enacted without a single Republican vote. With a sleight of hand appropriations maneuver, it evaded the protections of the Hyde Amendment and became the single largest expansion of taxpayer funding for abortion.

The backlash was swift and severe, leading to a wave of pro-life legislators sweeping into Congress, elected by hard-working Americans who recognized the usurpation of their moral convictions. Moreso, it set the stage for an executive reckoning, paving the path for the “most pro-life President” in the history of the nation, Donald J. Trump, who has previously championed Hyde protections.

Obamacare proved that coercing Americans to pay for abortions is a binary, line-in-the-sand issue for American voters across the aisle. If even one taxpayer dollar flows to abortion, it forces every American to be complicit in harming women and ending preborn life in the womb. Abandoning the most popular pro-life provision in history is a losing strategy, especially as we look toward the 2026 midterm elections. The history of Obamacare and subsequent electoral cycles proves that safeguarding our tax dollars from funding abortions, including painful late-term abortions, is a winning issue.

As you consider how to address the challenges of creating an effective and efficient healthcare marketplace, you must do so in a way that honors and upholds American values. You must protect human life by applying Hyde Amendment principles. You must prohibit funding of elective abortions and plans that include abortion.

The Hyde Amendment is at the core of protecting and supporting life. It has saved 2.64 million lives since its bipartisan enactment in 19761

Please stand with all Americans who do not want to be forced to pay for abortions. Americans elected a Republican trifecta in 2024, and Congress should not now scorn their widespread support by forcing Americans to fund abortion through a “flexibility” on Hyde.

America can and should build a better healthcare system, but it must be built on a conservative foundation, ensuring life is systematically protected, not wantonly taken. America’s women and children are not chips to be bargained with in the halls of our nation’s capitol.

I’m so disappointed by the lack of courage demonstrated by some Republicans within The House.
When we become unwillingly to publicly remain steadfast on our ProLife stance, I believe destruction will soon follow.

Thank you for boldly speaking up on behalf of the unborn.

Agreed, Jennifer. Republicans who waffle on this critical issue put their political careers at risk.
