Statement of Cancellation of Subcommittee for HF 2332 Life at Conception

Des Moines, IA — February 17, 2026 — The Iowa Coalition of Pro-Life Leaders is extremely disappointed that the subcommittee for legislation recognizing life at conception and affirming the equal dignity of every human being from the earliest stages of development has been cancelled. This legislation reflects the Coalition’s deeply held belief that all human life — born and pre-born — deserves legal protection and compassionate care.

Our gold standard is to pass Life at Conception legislation. “Our mission has always been to protect the most vulnerable among us — including unborn children — while also safeguarding the dignity and wellbeing of women and families across our state,” said Maggie DeWitte. The Coalition believes that affirming personhood at conception is a necessary moral and legal foundation for ending abortion in Iowa.

While we are disappointed this important bill will not move forward this session, we continue to advocate for passage of the Black-Market Abortion Pill Bill. The abortion pill is a dangerous drug that harms women and ends the life of an unborn child.  We need common-sense safeguards to ensure the safety of women who are ingesting this drug.  We also want women to be informed of the risks of this drug, including adverse events such as sepsis, infection, and hemorrhaging as well as the possibility of reversing this process if she changes her mind using the Abortion Pill Reversal protocol.
