Iowa abortions drop 35%!

Iowa Health and Human Services released the most recent report on the Vital Statistics of Iowa. This data covers 2024 and shows that the number of abortions in Iowa dropped from 2,771 in 2023 to 1,792 in 2024, a thirty-five percent decline. Data includes chemical, but not mail-order abortions.

That’s 979 Iowa babies saved!

The decline reflects the impact of the Heartbeat Bill which went into effect on July 29th, 2024. The Heartbeat Bill bans abortions at the point when a heartbeat is detectable, which ranges from six to ten weeks after fertilization.

Thanks to the Heartbeat Bill and efforts of Pulse Life Advocates and our allies in the Pro-Life Coalition, Planned Parenthood closed four locations in 2025, leaving them but two left (Des Moines and Iowa City).

Planned Parenthood closes clinics nationwide

Planned Parenthood is scrambling at a national level, too. They closed fifty clinics in 2025 because Congress cut off Title X and Medicaid reimbursements to the abortion giant.

To compensate for falling revenue, The Wall Street Journal reports some of Planned Parenthood’s California clinics now offer Botox treatments, a far cry from their historic mission to provide “reproductive health” for women. 

Planned Parenthood has waged an effective PR campaign most of this century positioning their services as “women’s reproductive healthcare.” Notoriously, former CEO, Cecile Richards, went before Congress claiming their services included mammograms. Live Action exposed the lie in the video below:

Botox has nothing to do with healthcare. But at least the treatments don’t kill a woman’s unborn child. 

Pulse applauds this precipitous drop in Iowa abortions while acknowledging we still have a long ways to go. And the cause of Life faces ongoing political challenges with the upcoming retirement of Governor Reynolds, who has signed every pro-life piece of legislation put before her. It is vital to the health of Iowa that we elect a pro-life governor.
