Apply now for Pulse’s $10,000 pro-life college scholarship

“In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes”

Judges 21:25

Nearly two thirds of Americans aged 18-29 identify as pro-choice in a 2025 Gallup poll, and 76% of all Americans believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases according to a Pew Research poll conducted in 2024.  Within that 76% in favor of abortion access, 64% of Protestants and 59% of Catholics surveyed answered the same way.  On our college campuses, a two thirds majority of students polled in a recent survey agreed that it is okay to shout down a speaker that shares views inconsistent with your own, and a shocking 34% agree violence is okay to be used against those same speakers.

Pulse Life Advocates had the great privilege of hosting Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America and Students for Life Action, as the keynote speaker at our annual Christmas Gala this past Saturday.  In a rousing, passionate speech, Kristan detailed the perilous state of the pro-life movement on college campuses across the nation, and what her organizations are doing to stop this trend.  Kristan claims that in their on-campus ministry, 11% of those who are pro-abortion either have a change of heart or are open to a healthy discussion of the truth found on pro-life side after a face-to-face encounter.  Eleven hearts changed out of every 100, just by having a respectful, open discussion led by people unafraid to speak the truth!  Alas, Kristan warns “[we’ve realized] many victories, but the promise land is not yet secured.”

Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me! Isaiah 6:8

The youth of today are our elected officials of tomorrow.  Every pro-life victory experienced now, from the Dobbs decision overturning Roe vs Wade to the heartbeat bill passed in our own great state of Iowa is at jeopardy of being reversed by a culture change fostered by the upcoming generations.  This culture change isn’t just a threat at the federal level, either.  School boards, city councils, small non-profit organizations, and churches are all places critical for strong pro-life voices and leadership based on Christ.

But we can’t change the culture for them, the voices need to be their own.  When a peer is the one to stand in front of class or in a student union and profess the truths found in the Bible, their words carry so much more weight and become so much more effective compared to a typical authority figure.  And, their conviction and courage can spread like wildfire.  Remember that 11% figure?  Imagine that number compounding as those 11 students go out and change the hearts of another 11 students, and another 11, and so forth.

Pulse Life Advocates is dedicated to fostering the pro-life culture across generations.  For this reason we created the annual $10,000 pro-life scholarship.   Applicants will be either a junior or senior in high school, and the scholarship will be applied to the college of their choice.

Students will be asked to answer the question “Is is ethical for Christians to advocate for laws that restrict abortion?”  The winning essay will articulately defend their faith in the context of cultural and political responsibility, and be written by a student who shows active involvement in pro-life activities at the high school level. Defending their answer in a Biblical mindset will create deep, long lasting beliefs, and create conviction and courage in their hearts.  Conviction and courage like that of Kristan Hawkins or Charlie Kirk, which they will carry on to their college campus to inspire others.

“We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again” General Nathanael Greene

The pro-life culture will never be unanimously adopted in a day, but rather occur by changing hearts one at a time by leaders full of conviction, courage, and faith in God.  All life is sacred and deserving of dignity.   As Kristan Hawkins said, we must:

“teach this generation who made them, and what they were made for”.
